Your toddler or preschooler will be buzzing about the newest spring-themed activity pack I’ve put together for you!
I recently added the book Why do we need bees? to our home library. As soon as it arrived, it became my daughter’s new favorite book to read. We enjoyed reading the facts about bees, learning new things and exploring the inside of a beehive. I even learned a new thing or two! Did you know there are more than two types of bees?! I surely didn’t!
Needless to say, this book, along with a few other bee books we already owned, was the inspiration behind these spring-themed activities. Click on each image below to learn more about our favorite books about bees.
My daughter is showing a high level of interest in learning her letters so I’ve been adding different hands-on activities to our days to reinforce what she’s learning in preschool. These activities also give us some academic structure to our morning schedule. It keeps our daughter happily engaged at the kitchen table! Plus, it gives us something specific to practice every day.
Without further ado, here are the activities included in this spring-themed activity pack.
Practice letter recognition on these two pages. Bb is for buzzing bumblebees and Hh is for honey. We love our Do-A-Dot Art Markers, but you can also use bingo markers on this page. Use the color blue to reinforce the letter Bb or just have your child pick his/her favorite color. If you want do even more with these pages, have your child choose two or more colors and practice following a pattern! For the letter Bb, you can use yellow and black to transform the letter into a bee. Not only is your child increasing his/her understanding of the letter shape and letter name, he/she is practicing one-to-one correspondence. Each circle gets one dot! This concept sets the foundation for math. The pictures and words provide a visual cue for your child.
These two pages use the letters Bb and Hh in the context of a sentence that teaches a fact. Your child brings the pictures to life by adding color. Build your child’s vocabulary by talking about the sentence and the details of each picture. Coloring is such a relaxing activity! Plus, these pages give your child something independent to do, which means you might be lucky enough to gain several minutes to switch a load of laundry, unload the dishwasher, clean up the dishes in the kitchen sink, prep a meal or drink your cup of coffee!
Next up, we have some cutting and gluing practice. Your child practices their cutting skills by following the dotted lines. Then, he/she glues the picture onto the letter. We have B for bug and H for honeycomb. This is another way to reinforce the letters B and H. Your child is receiving yet another visual cue as well as a hands-on experience with each uppercase letter. These pages are perfect for your visual and tactile learners. You could even add in some math by having your child count the bugs and honeycombs.
Last, but not least, there is a fun matching game. The pictures are all connected to the theme of the activity pack. Playing games with your child is a fun way to connect with your child. Not only is your child learning about the pictures on each card, he/she is learning how to take turns, wait patiently and follow directions. Games are such a fun learning experience for preschoolers! Matching games are so beneficial for them. They improve concentration, focus, strengthen visual memory and quicken thinking skills. Matching games are a wonderful form of exercise for your child’s brain!
