My first experience with Usborne Books & More (UBAM) was when I received the book “That’s Not My Duck” as a gift for my daughter. This touchy-feely board book was the perfect addition to my daughter’s library. We enjoyed reading the book and exploring the different textures on each page during tummy time and before naptime. Two and a half years later, she still enjoys reading this book when I bring it out at springtime 🙂
Fast forward a few months and my daughter received “That’s Not My Kitten” and “That’s Not My Reindeer” as gifts from a UBAM-loving friend. My daughter LOVED these books! I loved the durability, vibrant illustrations, simple repetitive text and touchy-feely elements on each page. We had fun reading these books together on a daily basis.
My UBAM-loving friend hosted a book party and I decided to join in on the fun. I ordered a few great titles for my daughter, which were given to her as birthday and Christmas gifts. Books make the perfect gift! They are the gift that keep on giving. Her favorite book to receive was the Busy Bug Book. She LOVED making the ladybug follow the paths on each page. Our cat enjoyed this book, too! Interactive books engage young children and Usborne Books & More keeps this in mind because they produce a variety of books that showcase reading as a fun learning activity!
After I attended a few book parties hosted by friends, I decided to host my own book party and earn some free books for my kiddos. Who doesn’t love free books?? As a former teacher, reading books with children is in my blood. In my opinion, you can never have too many books. I hosted a party shortly before my son was born with the hope of grabbing some new titles for him and a few for my daughter to enjoy while I was tending to a newborn!
The party was a lot of fun, very easy to host and I was rewarded with some free (and half-price) books for our home library. The titles I was most excited to receive were Fold-Out Book: Things That Go & 123 Counting for my son and Lift-the-Flap Colors, That’s Not My Dinosaur (We are all about Disney Princesses, Dinosaurs and Marvel over here!) & Nibbles the Book Monster for my daughter.
Since hosting a book party, I’ve continued to build our collection of books from UBAM. The consultant for whom I hosted a party reached out to me about joining her team. I asked a lot of questions before joining, but ultimately, decided to do it. I love buying books for my children, giving books as gifts, and doing activities & crafts with books so it seemed like the perfect opportunity for me. I get a discount on the books I purchase, can continue to share our favorite books with friends and help my favorite peeps earn free books for their own kids! Contributing to our finances is definitely a bonus, too! So it seemed like a win-win for me.
At the time she asked me, the company was doing a $30 special to join. I waited until the very last day of the special to join, but was SUPER excited to get started with my new adventure as a book lady.
Joining Usborne Books & More as a consultant seemed to happen at the right time. For months leading up to this, I was feeling lost and just longed to do something that fulfilled me while being beneficial to my family. I was at home all day with two small children, which I loved, but needed to do more for myself.
Being a mom is the most rewarding, yet hardest job on the planet! I am fortunate enough to be at home with my daughter and son. However, being a SAHM (and just a mom) can wear you down. Being a book lady gives me a community to be a part of that is outside of my kids. It provides me the opportunity to interact with adults during the day and be a part of something great!
My experience since joining has only been positive! I’ve been introduced to a team of supportive, helpful and extremely encouraging individuals. I’ve helped several friends add new books to their classroom and home libraries. I’ve helped friends build up a book library for new babies. I’ve helped friends get a jumpstart on their holiday shopping. This is what I love the most about being a book lady!! Earning free books and bonuses from UBAM as a result of sharing about something I’m quite passionate about is a plus, too!
